Howto: accessing the internet from Asus EEE using your WM5 or WM6′s GPRS

This post is in English so all the nice folks from eeeuser.com can benefit from it.

For 2 days i am trying to get my eee to access the internet through my WM6 Eten Glofiish M700. I have tried the solutions published on all eee forums and nothing worked. I tried connecting the phone through USB: failure. Then i bought a $10 bluetooth dongle and tried again: failure.

Then, thanks to Chainfire, i finally found the wonder solution: wifi.

Step-by-step, here’s what you must do:

1. Download the WMWiFiRouter application from here

2. Unzip it, then copy the exe file to your mobile phone’s program files; make sure you have an internet sharing application available and set PC connectivity to USB and network conectivity to your existing internet connection on WM phone

3. Setup an adhoc wireless connection between the mobile phone and the EEE using WPA and key index = 1

  • turn on wifi on the mobile phone
  • search and click on the “Add new…” option in the wireless networks list
  • enable wifi on eee
  • add a new wireless conection on eee, and when defining the parameters, make it an ad-hoc connection; leave IP in charge of DHCP

4. Turn off wifi on WM phone

5. Run WMWifiRouter

6. From network connexions applet select your adhoc wireless network and click connect

7. Happy browsing! :)

    Dear Alu

Thank you very much for your instructions. They didn’t work on my Sam i600 but they gave me the idea of creating from scratch the connection from the EEE (by the way im loving my linux machine!! Fantastic value for money). And you know what i manage to do the trick (after some frustranting hours because of the stupid wm 5 ) know im going to by the program (by the way its a little dangerous and not very stable but it works!!!)
When i have the time and if you don mind im going to send you a post with a step by step explanation “How to Connect Sam i600 with WM 5 to your fantastic EEE PC 701″ sounds good for you?

A big hug and thank you a lot!!!

    Big
